A Grassroots Movement in Morocco

In North Africa, a growing movement of believers in the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light is challenging the entrenched cycle of tyrannical kings and self-appointed religious scholars. These rulers, accused of neglecting the weak and oppressed, are said to distort religious teachings, declaring lawful what is prohibited and vice versa. A group of the Ansar in Morocco are stepping out against this pattern, declaring “enough is enough.” They advocate for God’s supremacy and are rallying others to investigate the call of Aba-Al-Sadiq, a figure they refer to as the “Riser of Truth.”

In Morocco, this movement has gained visibility through posters displayed in workplaces and cities. Two prominent advocates are Moham Ali and Habiba, a medical doctor, who have been actively spreading the message of Aba-Al-Sadiq.

Habiba’s path to this cause began with a deep dissatisfaction with mainstream interpretations of Islam. Despite her Islamic education, she found little emphasis on the concept of a divinely appointed leader, or the Imam of the time. Her curiosity led her to explore Shia narrations and discover the Al Rayat Al Sud channel on YouTube. Convinced by Aba-Al-Sadiq’s speeches and his reliance on what she viewed as compelling proofs—particularly the will of Prophet Mohammed—she embraced the call.

However, her newfound faith has come at a personal cost. Her family believes she has been manipulated, yet she remains steadfast. She has encouraged others to explore the movement, guiding them to read foundational texts such as The Goal of the Wise and The Mahdi’s Manifesto.

Her professional life also suffered; she was dismissed from her job after a colleague reported the phrase “Allegiance is to Allah alone” written on her office door. Despite this setback, she continues to share her message, even reaching out to patients.

Habiba and others in the movement urge people to reject the authority of religious and political leaders who, in their view, exploit their positions for personal gain. Citing the Quran and hadiths, they highlight warnings against those who legislate contrary to God’s will.

For example, the Quran states:

“They took their rabbis and their priests as lords besides Allah…” (Surah at-Tawbah 9:31).

When asked about this verse, the Prophet reportedly explained:

“Did they not make harām that which Allah had made halāl so then you made it harām? And would they not make halāl that which Allah had made harām and you likewise would make it halāl?”

This interpretation resonates deeply with the Ansar in Morocco , who see current leaders as embodying these warnings.

The movement’s critiques extend to Morocco’s socio-political landscape. Despite the hopes raised by the Arab Spring, the country remains mired in poverty and oppression. Many believe the nation’s wealth, derived from abundant natural resources, has been siphoned off by a corrupt elite.

King Mohammed VI, whose fortune is estimated at $5.8 billion, is a focal point of their criticism. The monarch, who claims the title “Prince of Believers,” is accused of betraying Islamic principles and perpetuating systemic inequality.

In stark contrast, the Riser of Truth—Aba Al-Sadiq—has come to proclaim the opposite message. The Qaim calls upon the people to reject these oppressive regimes and the lies that have kept them in chains. He reminds believers that the Muslim nation has been fractured, and legitimate Islamic rule has been lost since the beheading of Imam Hussein and the civil wars waged against Imam Ali. The people instead aligned with the family of Abu Sufyan and the Abbasid dynasty, leading to centuries of misrule and fragmentation.

The solution to the current state of devastation in the Muslim world lies in supporting and submitting to the authority of the Qaim, Aba Al-Sadiq. Only by rallying under this divinely appointed leader can the ummah begin to heal.

As Imam Al-Baqir stated: “When our Qaim rises, he will call the people to a new matter, as the Messenger of Allah called. And verily, Islam started as something strange, and it will return as something strange, so glad tidings to the strangers.” (Ghaybah Al-Nomani, p. 336; Bihar Al-Anwar, vol. 52, p. 366)
