Op-ed: Where Iran Went Wrong

Updated: Dec 10

God says in the Holy Quran:

“and those who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back” - (Surah Ash-Shu’ara, Verse 227 ).

Oppression, tyranny, crime, terror, massacres, executions, corruption, warmongering, lies, hypocrisy, and deceit—these are all words that can clearly describe the system and government that, under the guise of Islam and Shiism, has taken control of Iran today. The so-called "Islamic Republic of Iran" might be better termed the "Satanic Republic of Iran" because this regime is based on a self-created ideology called Velayat-e Faqih (or, more accurately, Velayat-e Safih,  the "Guardianship of the Fool"). This completely contradicts the teachings of Islam and the infallible Imams.

The Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet Muhammad have explicitly rejected any government led by a non-infallible (meaning anyone other than the Prophet or his rightful successors who are appointed by God). We all know that the past and present leaders of the so-called Islamic Republic of Iran—namely, Ruhollah Khomeini and Ali Khamenei —are not Infallibles and are not among the true successors mentioned in the will of the Prophet Muhammad.

Sulayman ibn Khalid narrated that Imam Sadiq said:

"Avoid Rulership! Rulership is only for the Imam who has knowledge of judgment and is just among Muslims; rulership belongs to the Prophet or his successor." (Al-Kafi, Sheikh Kulayni, Vol. 7, p. 406 )

Many of you may wonder how Ruhollah Khomeini (the former leader of the so-called Islamic Republic of Iran) came to power, established his authoritarian regime in Iran, and how the leaders of this oppressive system commit such acts of injustice and crime.

In brief, before 1979, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (the second Shah of the Pahlavi dynasty) was the king of Iran. However, the U.S. government lost hope in Mohammad Reza Shah, and secret communications and agreements between the Shia religious authority Ruhollah Khomeini and the U.S. government enabled Khomeini to incite widespread protests against the Pahlavi monarchy by appealing to the religious beliefs of the Iranian people, who are mostly Shia Muslims. Ultimately, on February 11, 1979, the Pahlavi monarchy was completely overthrown by the deceived and oppressed people of Iran, falling into the hands of Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the so-called Islamic Republic.

Ruhollah Khomeini, who had become a revered figure among Muslims in the Middle East, especially among Iranians, claimed that his uprising and revolution were led in the name of Imam Mahdi and promised to hand over the banner of the so-called Islamic Republic to Imam Mahdi (Memoirs, Ray Shahri, Islamic Revolution Document Center, Vol. 1, p. 242 ). However, once he had seized absolute power, he issued a fatwa stating that preserving his impure and loathsome government was more important than even the life of a single person, including Imam Mahdi (Sahifeh-ye Imam, Ruhollah Khomeini, Vol. 15, p. 365), openly declaring that he would be willing to kill Imam Mahdi for the sake of maintaining his regime.

Khomeini's deceit, hypocrisy, and duplicity were astonishing, to the extent that the Shia people of Iran were misled by him and failed to heed the words of the Ahlul Bayt of Prophet Muhammad, who had said that any banner raised before the appearance of the Qa’im would be led by a tyrant.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir had said:

“Any banner raised before the appearance of the Qa’im is led by a tyrant.” (Ghaybat al-Nu’mani, Vol. 1, p. 115 )

Exactly as it may cross your mind, Khomeini was allied with the Americans and falsely claimed that he would hand over the banner to Imam Mahdi. According to the words of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir that we mentioned earlier, Ruhollah Khomeini was indeed a tyrant and a deceiver...

Every day, Ruhollah Khomeini carried out crimes and anti-Shia corruption that were worse and more despicable than the day before—from provoking Saddam into an eight-year war with Iran to the brutal executions of the summer of 1988.

The 1988 executions in Iran revealed Khomeini's true face to the world. This brutal event was a horrific massacre where, under Khomeini’s orders, thousands of Iranian political and ideological prisoners were secretly executed in the prisons of the so-called Islamic Republic of Iran during the months of August and September 1988 and were buried in mass graves. This incident was so appalling that Khomeini’s former successor and deputy, Hossein Ali Montazeri, protested against Khomeini’s savage order and condemned this crime as the greatest atrocity in the history of the Islamic Republic (Leaked Audio of the 1988 Summer Execution Council).

Following the death of Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989, the criminal regime of the Satanic Republic passed into the hands of Ali Khamenei (the current leader of Iran), whose crimes and acts of terror, both inside and outside of Iran, far surpass those of Ruhollah Khomeini. Having tasted the allure of absolute power and immense wealth, Ali Khamenei presented himself as the "Guardian of All Muslims Worldwide," declaring that allegiance to his corrupt regime was akin to allegiance to the Prophet Mohammed, even though the Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet Muhammad and the infallible Shia Imams have explicitly opposed and cursed this kind of hypocritical allegiance.

Imam Sadiq said to his companion Mufaddal ibn Umar:

“O Mufaddal, any allegiance pledged before the appearance of the Qa’im is an allegiance of disbelief, hypocrisy, and deceit. God curses both the one who pledges allegiance and the one who takes it.” (Al-Hidaya al-Kubra, Vol. 1, p. 392 )

Ali Khamenei, through his brutal crimes, strives to sustain his regime while tearing apart the wealth of Iran and Iranians like ravenous hyenas.

In the 46 years since the establishment of the so-called Islamic Republic, the regime has killed approximately 2,400 innocent Iranians during street protests. According to reports, around 1,500 of these deaths occurred under Ali Khamenei’s orders during the widespread protests against fuel price hikes in 2019.

Today, the so-called Islamic Republic of Iran, led by Ali Khamenei, has become a safe haven and supporter for terrorist groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, the Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi), Ansar Allah in Yemen, and others. The government diverts the annual income of impoverished Iranians to support these paramilitary and terrorist groups, aiming to secure its corrupt regime. Meanwhile, millions of impoverished Iranians live in dire conditions, and whenever these oppressed people protest, they face severe repression by Iran’s security agencies.

Most importantly, Ali Khamenei continued Ruhollah Khomeini’s hostility toward Imam Mahdi in the worst possible way. With the appearance of the successor and messenger of Imam Mahdi, the Qa’im of the family of Muhammad, Aba Sadiq Abdullah Hashem, and the joining of hundreds of Iranians to support the Qa’im, Khamenei began oppressing and persecuting the innocent followers of the Qa’im, Aba Sadiq Abdullah Hashem, in Iran.

Yes, Khomeini verbally issued the fatwa, and Khamenei brutally acted upon it. Khomeini claimed he would kill Imam Mahdi to preserve his regime, and Khamenei followed through, beginning to imprison, torture, and even sentence followers of the Qa’im to death, referring their cases to the most dangerous court in Iran, directly overseen by him—the Special Clerical Court.

We reiterate here that, yes, you heard correctly: the so-called Islamic Republic of Iran, which claims to be Shia and a follower of Imam Mahdi, today stands against Imam Mahdi, the Qa’im of the family of Muhammad, Aba Sadiq Abdullah Hashem, and his innocent followers in Iran, treating them in the worst possible way.

Abu Maryam narrates that the prince of the believers, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, reported that Prophet Muhammad said:

“A people will come who will abandon Islam as swiftly as an arrow leaves the bow. They will recite the Quran, yet it will not go beyond their throats. Blessed are those who kill them or are killed by them. Their sign is their leader, who will have a crippled, injured hand.” (Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Musnad of Ali ibn Abi Talib, Hadith 1305)

If we were to write about the oppression and crimes of the so-called Islamic Republic of Iran and its leaders against Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and the people of Iran, we would fill many books and magazines. For now, we leave you with this summary.
